I haven't been to Balboa Island since college and the bf has never been so we ventured out there a few weekends ago. The weather was perfect for it! We ate at Picante Martin's, which had really good tacos. We of course had to get a frozen banana. It's a must at Balboa Island. There's also a candy store for those with a sweet tooth! It's a pretty small place but I always enjoy walking along the beach and playing the game of 'which beach house would you want if you lived here'. Some of these beach houses are so classic and cute, while others are so modern and chic. If you're playing Pokemon Go, this is definitely a hot spot. While walking along the beach, I saw people of all ages playing. It's still so crazy to me how big this game is.
Summer always puts me in a mood to go out and do more. Maybe it's the weather? California weather has that affect and I like having fun productive summers! Here are some things in the OC/LA area that you can check out this summer. Some of these events are during the summer only so be sure to check the dates!
- Move night at Dodger Stadium
- Free Jazz night at LACMA
- The fairly new Pacific City has a wide variety of restaurants & stores with occasional live music nights
- Free weekly concerts at the Santa Monica Pier
- Enjoy a night at the Long Beach Aquarium for adults
- Watch a movie at the Hollywood Cemetery
- Free movie nights at the Segerstrom Center
- Lastly, nothing gets better than having a picnic and hanging out at the beach!
I recently went to check out The Broad in downtown LA. If you like museums, this is a good one to check out. Admission is free and it's best to reserve a time spot for entry. You can also go online to their standby site. Either way, try to check this place out! I didn't get to go into the infinity room, but with all the social media post, I almost feel like I've been there. The building is an art piece itself. If you're looking for more things to do around The Broad, MOMA is also across the street.
Sup dude. I saw this door mat awhile ago online. It was $50, which is more than what I'd like to spend on something that will just get stepped on outside. So, what's the alternative option? Make it myself! I bought a door mat from Ikea and spray paint from Michael's. I printed letters out and cut them as stencils. What's nice about this option is that you can choose whatever font you like!
What you'll need:
Print and cut out the letters.
Place the letters where you'd like. Use the ruler/measuring tape to be sure it's centered and straight. Next, tape them down.
Spray paint away! I sprayed two layers to be sure that every part was covered.
Let it dry and that's it! Easy, inexpensive, and you'll have the coolest doormat in the neighborhood!
Before moving to southern California, LA was the city I’ve always wanted to live in down here. Since college and post college life landed me in OC instead, I make up for it by making frequent visits to LA when I can. One of the things I enjoy doing is trying different restaurants. If I’m going to endure the infamous LA traffic, I make it a goal to eat somewhere new each time. Recently I visited the Grand Central Market in downtown LA. This market has evolved over the years and is now home to many different vendors.
View from outside the market
Oysters and ceviche from The Oyster Gourmet
G&B Coffee, which has a almond macadamia nut latte that!
Gelateria Uli isn't in Grand Central Market. It's nearby and has an amazing speculoos cookie gelato! I want to go back RIGHT NOW for that and their pistachio flavor!
Over the years I’ve tried different beauty products and now I have a pretty good idea of what works for me. I’m not a beauty guru but here’s a list of what I like to use in the morning.
1 Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer I like this moisturizer since it has such a high SPF. Now that I'm older, I’m all about protecting my face from the sun! I use this if I know I’ll be in the sun a lot that day. It also doesn’t leave behind any white residue. There’s been too many times where I’ve looked like a ghost because of my sunblock…
2 Shiseido White Lucent Brightening Protective Emulsion If I’m not going to be in the sun much, such as being indoor all day at work, I’ll usually use this moisturizer. I like that it’s thin/light weight yet still has SPF in it.
3 Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation I recently started using this foundation and I love it! It’s very light weight and has a dewey finish, which I like. The only downside is that it doesn’t have SPF in it. I have dry to normal skin so this works well for me.
4 Bare Minerals All Over Face Warmth For a daily use I like to use this as bronzer. It’s not too much and not too little. This warmth plus blush gives me just enough color to look like I’m actually alive. (I’m not a morning person.)
5 Mac Powder Blush in Peaches During the day I like to use a somewhat light blush color. I like this blush color because it’s in between a pinkish and coral color. I like to use this on a night out as well if I'm not trying to get too done up. I add a couple more layers for a more noticeable touch.
6 Mac Fluid Line in Blacktrack I love this eyeliner! I started using this in college and have not used anything else since. It goes on easily and very smooth. It’s also easy to use for a winged cat eye look. Not only is it easy to use, but it stays on really well!
7 Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Medium Brown Before using this product I would fill in my brows using a brown eyeshadow. It did it’s job, but it was nothing compared to this dipbrow. I immediately loved how this dipbrow applies. It gives your brows a natural look. I’ve heard good things about the other Anastasia eyebrow products and plan on giving those a try as well.
What are some of your daily beauty products?
I've always wanted to start a blog, but never got around to it. Maybe I was intimated by how many successful blogs there are already? But hey, you won't know till you try right? So here's my little space where I'll be sharing the things I like and the things that inspire me. Hope you stick around to enjoy it! :)
